|
Review
This is official description
mIRC is a popular Internet Relay Chat client used by millions of people, and thousands of organizations, to communicate, share, play and work with each other on IRC networks around the world. Serving the Internet community for over a decade, mIRC has evolved into a powerful, reliable and fun piece of technology.
The following review written by one of the Software Informer contributors applies to version 6.3
mIRC is a full-featured and really easy-to-use IRC client that allows users to communicate via IRC for work or fun with people from around the globe. It has been around for more than a decade, which means that its features are well polished in terms of functionality and ease of use and are always being updated and improved. It has all the features its predecessors had and adds new ones, such as buddy lists, file transfers, multi-server connections, SSL encryption, proxy support, UTF-8 display, customizable sounds, spoken messages, tray notifications, message logging, and more.
mIRC has a very neat configurable user interface which is both powerful and easy to use. It allows for seamless one-to-one or group conversations. Although simple, thanks to its powerful scripting engine, this IRC client application allows for the writing of powerful scripts that can be used for automating tasks or just for playing games. Scripts are readily available online and are not hard to write. mIRC is a shareware program. You can download mIRC for free and give it a try. If during or after the evaluation period you decide you want to keep on using mIRC, you're asked to pay a small registration fee.
mIRC supports all the Windows platforms, so all it takes is to download the application, install it, and start using it! The help wizard included with the application is complete and covers mostly every topic both the basic and power user could ever need. Additional help on the website is available. |

What's new in version 7.2
- The Alt/AltGr keys should now work correctly for users with different keyboard layouts. - The "Minimize to tray" option now defaults to off under Windows 7 due to the way Windows 7 hides all tray icons by default. - The Channel Central dialog has been changed so that it can now be resized. - The /list command issue with min/max values not working on some networks has been fixed. - Added "Use compatibility mode" option to SSL dialog, which defaults to on. If turned off, OpenSSL will use the "empty fragment" feature which may make your connection more secure at the expense of less compatibility with some SSL servers. - The /dns command issue with results not being shown when a non-existent nickname is specified has been fixed. - The tray icon issue with mouse clicks not working in some situations has been fixed - The /timer -h recursion issue should now be resolved. - Other changes and bug fixes.
